Chainalysis estimates North Korea stole just over $2bn in crypto in 2025
Pcgamer reports new research from Chainalysis estimates North Korea's cybersquads plundered just over $2 billion in crypto and tokens in 2025. Chainalysis frames that as a 51% year‑on‑year increase and says it would mean North Korea accounted for just under 60% of global cryptocurrency theft, which Chainalysis puts at $3.4 billion in 2025.
A major factor was the February 2025 attack on Bybit, which the FBI attributed to North Korea and said resulted in roughly $1.5 billion in stolen digital assets.
