Nottingham Forest dominate Fenerbahce to give Vítor Pereira perfect start

An evening in Istanbul that Nottingham Forest and the 1,200 travelling supporters will not forget began with a statement. After only three training sessions, Vítor Pereira’s first match in charge produced a convincing victory at Fenerbahçe that put Forest in command of the Europa League playoff tie and sent their fans into song: “Can we play you every week?” and “Where’s your famous atmosphere?” Murillo, the buccaneering Brazilian centre-back noted for shooting from distance, opened the scoring with his fourth Forest goal and second this season.

Igor Jesus headed in from a rehearsed corner just before half-time, and Morgan Gibbs-White completed the scoring on 50 minutes. Forest should have been further ahead, and midway through the second half Pereira withdrew Gibbs-White and Elliot Anderson, presumably with the bigger picture and Liverpool’s visit to the City Ground on Sunday in mind.
