According to People, Olympic skateboarder Nyjah Huston announced via Instagram on Monday, Jan. 5 that he fractured his skull and his eye socket and was recovering in the hospital.

Huston captioned the post, "A harsh reminder how death defying skating massive rails can be," and added, "Taking it one day at a time," followed by "I hope yall had a better new years then me. We live to fight another day 🙏🏽." He shared photos showing a bruised and fractured eye socket, images from the accident site including paramedics and an ambulance, a photo of himself lying on the ground with a makeshift pillow, and a mirror selfie that provided a closer look at the injury. He was also pictured wrapped in a blanket and wearing bright yellow hospital socks as he rode in a wheelchair outside HonorHealth medical facility in Arizona. Fellow pro-skateboarders left messages, including Tony Hawk, who wrote, "Heavy. Stay strong; we know you’ll be back," and Ryan Sheckler, who commented, "Man.. prayers for healing brother!"

Huston has represented the U.S. at the Tokyo 2020 and 2024 Games, earning the bronze medal in the men's street final in Paris. He previously called it "tough" to have "a good shot at the win and not pulling through." He has said he intends to compete at the 2028 Los Angeles Games: "I’m stoked for the L.A. Olympics. I’m definitely going to try my best to be there. I plan to be there," he told Reuters in August 2025.
