Goal reports Crystal Palace boss Oliver Glasner has emerged as Manchester United’s “top target” to replace Ruben Amorim after the club relieved the Portuguese coach of his duties on January 5. United said in a brief statement that, with the club sitting sixth in the Premier League, leadership had “reluctantly made the decision” to make a change to give the team the best opportunity of the highest possible finish and thanked Amorim for his contribution.

The sacking followed an explosive outburst aimed at the board after a 1-1 draw at Leeds and reports that Amorim had previously clashed with director of football Jason Wilcox; former United midfielder Darren Fletcher has been handed the reins on a caretaker basis. The Telegraph is cited as saying Glasner is a leading contender and that United’s hierarchy are admirers of the work the Austrian has done at Selhurst Park, where his contract runs until the end of the campaign.

The outlet also notes continued support at Old Trafford for Roberto De Zerbi, who is currently in charge of Marseille, and recalls United interviewed De Zerbi in summer 2024 when questions were being asked about Erik ten Hag’s future; the Dutchman was handed a new contract but only lasted until October of that year.
