‘One Battle After Another’ wins best comedy at Golden Globes; ‘The Pitt’ takes best drama
The Golden Globes honored Paul Thomas Anderson’s One Battle After Another with the award for best motion picture, musical or comedy, while HBO Max’s The Pitt won best television drama; lead acting prizes went to performers from Hacks and The Pitt. The film also picked up awards for its director, screenplay and an acting prize, and the original film Sinners won two Globe trophies.
One Battle After Another, which received nine Globe nominations, was described in coverage as a front-runner for the Oscars after earlier wins at the Critics Choice Awards and other groups. Anderson, accepting his directing award, name-checked the Warner Bros. executive Michael DeLuca, saying that DeLuca “said he wanted to run a studio one day and let filmmakers make whatever they want.” The coverage also notes Leonardo DiCaprio’s comments to The Times about the film’s political and tribal themes.
Netflix dominated in the limited-series and animated-film categories with Adolescence and KPop Demon Hunters; Adolescence also won multiple acting prizes. Wagner Moura won best actor in a motion picture, drama for The Secret Agent, and Jessie Buckley won best actress in a motion picture, drama for Hamnet.
Several performers, including Timothée Chalamet, Rose Byrne, Rhea Seehorn and Buckley, were first-time Globe winners. The Studio won best television comedy, and Rhea Seehorn and Noah Wyle received acting awards for television. The ceremony’s coverage links many winners to Warner Bros.
