Onyx's Boox Palma 2 Pro is available now for $399, the company’s updated handheld digital paper tablet that adds a color display, stylus support and 5G connectivity, ZDNET said in its review.

The Palma 2 Pro upgrades to 8GB of RAM and a Qualcomm Snapdragon 750G processor, and includes a hybrid SIM slot that supports 5G and a MicroSD card. It has a 6.13-inch backlit Kaleido 3 color display, a 3,950mAh battery and runs Android 15 with access to the Google Play Store, letting users install major e-book apps and ecosystems.

ZDNET’s reviewer praised the device’s paper-like texture and responsive Ink Sense Plus stylus but warned the small screen limits extensive note-taking, noting palm interference and a fiddly quick button. The color display offers several presets (including HD and Regal modes) and customizable refresh options, though text can appear small or faint without the backlight and the color panel needs proper lighting to look its best.

The review also flagged practical concerns: the textured case material may pick up moisture or dirt, and while the Palma 2 Pro supports 5G it cannot make carrier voice calls as a standalone smartphone. ZDNET concluded it is a capable, highly portable e-reader that gives users access to multiple ecosystems, but recommended larger tablets for heavy handwriting or sketching work.
