OpenAI building ads integrity team to guard ChatGPT ads

OpenAI is creating an "ads integrity" team, according to a recent job listing, to help ensure its planned introduction of advertising in ChatGPT does not undermine user trust. The listing describes a high-impact, 0 → 1 role focused on designing systems that let the ad business scale without compromising safety.

The posting says the hire will work on "know your customer" (KYC) systems to verify advertisers and assess risk, a labor-intensive discipline aimed at cracking down on scam ads and other harmful content. The move mirrors efforts at other large tech companies; a Reuters investigation and company disclosures showed Meta removed "more than 134 million scam ads" in 2025.

Ariella Garcia of the Check My Ads Institute said KYC is a good foundation but questioned how substantive OpenAI's investment will be beyond launch, noting the material risk of a large volume of scam ads may be lower in the early days.
