OpenAI, Anthropic and Google launch new AI tools for healthcare
Three major AI labs — OpenAI, Anthropic and Google — have released new healthcare-oriented tools that let users and developers apply generative AI to health records, medical text and imagery. OpenAI introduced ChatGPT Health on January 7, a ChatGPT feature that lets users upload health records from apps such as Apple Health and Function to receive personalized medical information.
OpenAI said the feature was developed with physicians and is being tested by a small group; Axios reported it will be made generally available on the web and iOS in the coming weeks, and interested users can join a waitlist. OpenAI said the Health feature is designed to support, not replace, in-person care.
Four days later, Anthropic launched Claude for Healthcare, which allows US Pro and Max subscribers to upload personal health records via built-in connectors. Anthropic said Claude can summarize medical history, explain test results, detect patterns across fitness and health metrics, and prepare questions for appointments, and it offers connectors and skills for payers and providers.
Healthcare organizations can access Claude for Healthcare via Claude for Enterprise and the Claude Developer Platform. On January 13, Google announced MedGemma 1.5, an update to its MedGemma family of foundation models intended to help developers build apps that analyze medical text and imagery.
