OpenAI reportedly building bot-free social network requiring biometric proof
OpenAI is reportedly developing a bot-free social network that would require biometric proof of personhood, according to a Tuesday Forbes report cited by Cointelegraph. Sources told Forbes a small team of about 10 people has been building the platform, which has reportedly been in development since early 2025.
Forbes’ sources said any “proof of personhood” would likely be verified via Apple’s Face ID or the World Orb eyeball scanner, the latter being used by World, the blockchain project co-founded by OpenAI CEO Sam Altman. The report coincided with a 40% price jump for the OpenAI-linked token Worldcoin (WLD) on Wednesday to $0.63, before pulling back to $0.54 at the time of writing, according to CoinGecko data.
WLD has fallen almost 70% over the past 12 months amid a broader crypto downturn in the latter half of 2025, the report notes. The World Orb scans a person’s face and iris to verify uniqueness and helps establish a World ID, and it has drawn criticism over personal data privacy implications.
Details remain sparse on how the reported social platform could be integrated with OpenAI’s products or with WLD; it is believed ChatGPT would be used to help users create content such as videos or photos.
