Opera One R3 adds color-coded tab islands, AI, split-screen and Spotify theme
Opera has released Opera One R3, launched January 15, a new iteration of its browser focused on organization and personalization.
The R3 update introduces color-coded, named tab islands; context-aware Opera AI that can operate within a single tab or an entire tab island; split-screen support for up to four tabs in grid or horizontal layouts; an expanded sidebar that adds Gmail and Google Calendar alongside existing messaging, music and collaboration tools; and a new music-reactive theme created in collaboration with Spotify. The release builds on features already present in Opera One R2.
Writer Jack Wallen, who said he uses Opera's Workspaces for tab organization, described becoming more inclined to use tab islands and plans to integrate them into his daily use. He said he tested Opera's Aria AI, found its integration seamless and comparable to similar tools, and noted the AI is free and can work across an entire tab island. Wallen also said split-screen could be useful on large monitors, that the expanded sidebar should speed quick checks of email and calendar events, and that R3 expands Opera's theming options.
Opera One R3 is available to download for free from the official Opera site, with the stated goal of making the browser feel more organized, focused and personable.
