Mario Tennis Fever on Nintendo Switch 2 highlights an odd gap in his sporting résumé: there's still no Super Mario American football game. Mario already appears in nearly every other sport — from slams and home runs to Winter Olympic hockey and countless tennis outings — so football feels like a natural next step.

The Mushroom Kingdom has ready-made football characters: Chargin' Chuck exists in-universe, while Wario and Bowser suit linebacker roles and Waluigi looks built for kicking. Mario could be the quarterback if he didn't occasionally throw fireballs instead of passes, and Yoshi would be a chaotic, ball-eating endzone threat.

Bowling also seems ripe for a Mario treatment. Each character maps cleanly to a bowling style — Bowser as a power-thrower, Luigi a technician, Peach with a royal spin — and a Toadstool Tour-style approach could add weird bumpers, bizarre pin effects and powers that boost throws or sabotage opponents.
