Palhinha overhead kick not enough as Tottenham lose late at Bournemouth
According to Goal, Joao Palhinha scored his second overhead kick of the season at the Vitality Stadium, but Tottenham were beaten late as Antoine Semenyo — in what is expected to be his final game for the south coast side ahead of a move to Manchester City — netted the winner.
Spurs had taken an early lead through Mathys Tel, his third league goal of the season, but Bournemouth replied before the break via Evanilson and Junior Kroupi. A second-half penalty call for Tottenham was overturned by VAR, and Palhinha produced an acrobatic finish in the 78th minute.
Palhinha joined Spurs on loan from Bayern Munich with an option to make the move permanent and has recently featured more from the bench; his start at Bournemouth was his second in his last seven league outings. The midfielder’s strike was his fifth of the campaign and his third in the Premier League, and it was his second overhead-kick goal of 2025–26 following a similar effort in the EFL Cup win over Doncaster in September.
The defeat leaves Spurs with only two wins in their last 12 league matches, dropping them to 14th while remaining 13 points clear of the relegation zone. Tottenham now turn to FA Cup action, hosting Aston Villa in the third round at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, before a subsequent home league match against West Ham.
