Patriots and Seahawks set for Super Bowl 60; Steelers hire McCarthy; Gaethje wins interim belt
Cbssports reports the New England Patriots and Seattle Seahawks will meet in Super Bowl 60 after wins in their conference title games.
New England advanced with a 10-7 victory over the Broncos in a game played amid near blizzard conditions, while Seattle clinched its spot with a 31-27 win over the Rams. Drake Maye secured the Patriots' win on a play where he "called his own number," and Jaxon Smith-Njigba finished with 10 catches for 153 yards and a touchdown. The Super Bowl is set for Sunday, Feb. 8 at 6:30 p.m.
The Pittsburgh Steelers hired Mike McCarthy, who returns to the league after taking the 2025 season off. McCarthy, a Pittsburgh native, becomes the team's fourth coach since 1969; Bill Cowher gave his stamp of approval citing McCarthy's offensive acumen and ties to the city. The biggest lingering question noted is whether Aaron Rodgers will re-sign with the Steelers to play for his former coach.
The UFC on Paramount+ debut saw Justin Gaethje defeat Paddy Pimblett to win the interim lightweight title at UFC 324, earning a unanimous decision (48-47, 49-46, 49-46). Gaethje knocked Pimblett down twice and recorded three takedowns while Pimblett landed more significant strikes (156 to 144). Gaethje is now positioned to pursue the undisputed title but must face reigning champion Ilia Topuria to attain it.
