Peacock's 'Gladiator' Successor Finally Gets a Win on a Familiar Streamer
Those About to Die premiered on July 18, 2024 on Peacock and went global on Prime Video, quickly becoming one of the year’s most talked-about shows. Two years on, streaming data from FlixPatrol shows renewed interest for the Iwan Rheon-led drama on Starz, a fitting match given Starz’s association with Spartacus.
The series follows a large ensemble who arrive in Rome by various means, examining the gap between ordinary residents and the aristocratic elite through Roman politics and entertainment. There is significant appetite for the show in Arabic-speaking countries, and it ranks among the top ten most-watched shows on Amazon in Nigeria.
Despite its popularity, Those About to Die has not been officially cancelled or renewed. Series director and executive producer Roland Emmerich has expressed a desire to continue the story in a "Godfather Part II model," showing how events led to Domitian (Jojo Macari) becoming emperor and tracing what happens to other characters.
