Penny the Doberman Wins Best in Show at Westminster
Penny, a sleek and easygoing Doberman pinscher, won the 150th Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show, becoming the fifth member of her breed to take best in show. Her handler, Andy Linton, who won the title in 1989 with another Doberman, said, “I had some goals, and this was one of them.” Reserve best in show went to Cota, a Chesapeake Bay retriever who celebrated by grabbing his ribbon and parading around the ring.
The final round was boisterous, with partisans in the Madison Square Garden crowd cheering as Penny beat contenders that included an Afghan hound, an Old English sheepdog and a smooth fox terrier. The show began at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center with about 2,500 dogs from more than 200 breeds, with winners advancing through seven group categories.
