Nytimes reports that Penny, a sleek Doberman pinscher, won the 150th Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show on Tuesday night, becoming the fifth member of her breed to take best in show.

Reserve best in show went to Cota, a Chesapeake Bay retriever who celebrated by grabbing his ribbon. Other finalists included Zaida the Afghan hound, Cookie the Maltese, JJ the Lhasa apso, Graham the Old English sheepdog and Wager the smooth fox terrier.

Penny’s handler, Andy Linton, who won best in show in 1989 with another Doberman and has been diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease, said after the win, “I had some goals, and this was one of them.”

After weekend agility contests, the competition at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center featured 2,500 dogs from more than 200 breeds; winners of each breed advanced to seven group competitions, and judges evaluate dogs against breed standards rather than directly against one another.
