In a preview for Gamesradar of the first three chapters of Planet of Lana 2, the writer found the sequel offers tougher puzzles, a more central role for Lana's cat-like companion Mui, and a narratively darker tone. Wishfully co-founders Klas Eriksson and Adam Stjärnljus say they set out to do the same thing as the first game but better; the project grew longer than expected and was trimmed to stay tight.

Stjärnljus, the creative director, focused on making puzzles more interesting, adding mechanics such as controlling spiders to draw flammable pathways, manipulating machines for vertical environments, and positioning Mui with the RB button, while a dual-camera feature helps coordinate characters across the side-scroll world.

The preview describes death and respawn pauses that heighten stakes, snappier controls that increase Lana's agility, and underwater sequences where Lana cannot breathe and the controller rumbles with an on-screen aura to warn of low oxygen.
