Playground Games retools Fable morality as 'entirely subjective' system
Playground Games has reworked the classic binary good-and-evil morality in its upcoming Fable reboot into an "entirely subjective" system, studio general manager Ralph Fulton told Gamesradar.
Fulton said, "We talked about how it kind of felt like some games had moved on in a more sophisticated way to discuss morality. And certainly, when we looked at the world, there's no objective good, there's no objective evil. I think there's nothing you could do in the world that would unite everybody in the belief that it was good or evil, right? It's entirely subjective, and I think that's also really interesting. It's certainly interesting as a game system, and that's kind of what we've pursued."
The Fable head also said "we can't try to make a Lionhead game," and described the reboot as not fitting traditional fantasy, saying, "We all know what fantasy is – it's The Witcher, it's Skyrim, it's Lord of the Rings."
