Pokémon FireRed and LeafGreen are coming to Nintendo Switch
Pokémon FireRed and LeafGreen, the 2004 remakes of the original Pokémon Red and Blue, arrive on Nintendo Switch on Friday, Feb. 27 — Pokémon Day. That date also marks 30 years since the original games debuted in 1996. The announcement followed leaks and comes ahead of the Pokémon Presents broadcast scheduled for 9 a.m.
EST that same day. Both games will be sold separately for $19.99 each once the broadcast has finished; they will not join Nintendo Switch Online, and pre-orders are available now through the eShop. A special physical edition will be available in Japan only. FireRed and LeafGreen updated Generation 1 with then-modern graphics and gameplay and remain a popular way to catch the original 151 Pokémon.
They also added the Sevii Islands, a post-game area featuring high-level Pokémon, including some from Johto. The Pokémon Presents stream will likely also spotlight Pokémon Pokopia, an upcoming life sim described as 'has so much more going on under the surface' in a recent preview.
