Pokémon Go debuts Glimmet in Into the Depths event, Jan. 27–Feb. 1

Pokémon Go’s Into the Depths event runs Jan. 27 through Feb. 1 and focuses on underground Pokémon like Diglett and Yungoos while introducing the new ore Pokémon Glimmet. The event also triples XP from completing Routes and halves egg hatch distance for any eggs put into Incubators during the period.

The event includes both free and paid Timed Research. The premium research costs $1.99 and grants a doubled hatch candy bonus; Polygon recommends buying that pass only if you plan to shiny-hunt Yungoos or Diglett. Polygon’s breakdown shows the free Timed Research awards a Glimmet encounter, 15 Ultra Balls and 3,000 Stardust after tasks that include catching Pokémon and hatching eggs, with intermediate Diglett and Yungoos encounters listed as steps.

The paid Timed Research is built around alternating Yungoos and Diglett catch tasks and finishes with a Glimmet encounter, two Incubators and 3,000 Stardust as rewards. Field Research from spinning PokéStops can yield Explore 1 km tasks (Diglett or Yungoos encounter) or Explore 3 km tasks (Glimmet encounter).

Niantic’s blog post lists boosted wild spawns of Diglett, Dunsparce, Meditite and Yungoos; the post notes an "increased chance" of finding Diglett and Yungoos as shinies. Other players have reported seeing Geodude, Slugma, Makuhita and Sableye. Seven-kilometer eggs obtained during the event can hatch Diglett (also with an "increased chance" of being shiny), Larvitar, Bagon, Deino or Yungoos.
