Pokémon Go Lunar New Year 2026 event guide

Pokémon Go’s "Lunar New Year 2026" event runs Feb. 17–21 and celebrates the Year of the Horse, with horse and red Pokémon in the spotlight. Players will see an increased chance to get Lucky Pokémon from trades and to become Lucky Friends, and some PokéStops may randomly turn gold without a Golden Lure Module.

Golden PokéStops can drop Gimmighoul Coins, which are needed to evolve Gimmighoul into Gholdengo, and Gimmighoul can appear shiny during the event, so be ready with Coin Bags. The premium Timed Research costs $1.99 and must be completed before the event ends. Its tasks alternate between catching Blitzle and Darumaka in increasing quantities, and the rewards are 200 Poké Coins, 2 Lucky Eggs and 1 Incense.

The research may be most appealing to players chasing Blitzle and Darumaka, whose shiny rates are increased during the event. A Collection Challenge asks players to catch Magikarp, Shuckle, Fuecoco, Sizzlipede, Tepig and Darumaka, with a Turtonator encounter and 2,400 Stardust as rewards.
