Pokémon Go is holding a double Community Day featuring Vulpix and Alolan Vulpix on Sunday, Feb. 1 from 2-5 p.m. local time, the developer says. Shiny odds during Community Days are higher than usual: an old analysis by the now-defunct site The Silph Road (via the Wayback Machine) put Community Day shiny rates at about 1 in 24.

If you’re short on time or Poké Balls, the guide recommends using Incense and quickly tapping each Vulpix to check for shinies; tapped Vulpix will face your player, which helps keep track of which ones you’ve checked. If you evolve Vulpix into Ninetales on Feb. 1 between 2-9 p.m. local time, it will learn the charged move Energy Ball, and evolving an Alolan Vulpix into Alolan Ninetales in that window will teach Chilling Water.

If you miss that evolution window you will likely be able to get those moves during a Community Day weekend in December, or you can use an Elite TM to teach them immediately. Neither Ninetales form is especially useful for raids or gyms, but both are strong in Great and Ultra League PvP.

Polygon’s move suggestions are: Alolan Ninetales with Powder Snow, Weather Ball, and Chilling Water; Kantonian Ninetales with Ember, Weather Ball, and Overheat. The guide also recommends popping a Lucky Egg and an Incense, and notes certain Mega Evolutions or Primal forms will boost candy gains: Mega Charizard, Houndoom, Blaziken, or Camerupt (for regular Vulpix), Primal Groudon, and Mega Glalie or Abomasnow (for Alolan Vulpix).
