Ramsey winner deepens Spurs' woes as Frank fears the drop
Jacob Ramsey's first goal for the club produced a winner that felt inevitable, leaving Tottenham's manager Thomas Frank under fresh pressure. There were 49 minutes on the clock when the South Stand choir took up the song: "He's magic, you know. Mauricio Poch-e-ttino." Newcastle had been bright in the first half while Spurs were impossibly awful; Frank was already dealing with 10 injuries, lost Wilson Odobert in the 34th minute and has his captain, Cristian Romero, suspended.
Malick Thiaw put Newcastle ahead just before the interval after Guglielmo Vicario could only pat a cross out and Thiaw reached his own rebound ahead of Pape Sarr and Archie Gray. Spurs began the second half with more purpose and Gray volleyed them level from a set piece, but Newcastle restored the lead when Ramsey drilled a low, first-time finish following Anthony Gordon's pass.
