Rats filmed at Camp Nou days after newly-renovated stadium leaked
Rats have been spotted at the newly-refurbished Camp Nou, just days after the stadium sprung leaks during Barcelona’s La Liga clash with Real Oviedo, with Marca publishing a video showing rodents running alongside the perimeter of the pitch. Barcelona beat Oviedo 3-0 thanks to goals from Dani Olmo, Raphinha and Lamine Yamal, but the match was overshadowed by a downpour that drenched broadcasters and fans when the stadium leaked.
The club are back in their historic home but renovations are not yet complete; Barcelona are aiming to expand capacity to 105,000 and have plans for a roof. President Sandro Rosell said: "It has been an important decision for the club - the most important in the last 50 years," and added the option of building a new stadium on a new site was dismissed because the final cost could have saddled the club and its members with debt.
Barcelona’s treasurer, Ferran Olive, said the club are "late" to the party when it comes to redeveloping the stadium. He said: "We should have built this stadium years ago; we're late. And we're doing it so we can compete with the best clubs in the world," and outlined stadium revenue figures of €175m ($204m) for 2024-25, a current potential of €250m ($291m) without building and a target of €400m ($466m) with the new stadium.
Barca face Copenhagen on Wednesday night, with Marca’s clip emerging hours before the Champions League tie.
