Reacher's abundant source material is a mixed blessing
Reacher has outperformed Tom Cruise’s two movies from the 2010s, and Prime Video appears intent on keeping the show going. Jennifer Salke said, “We’ll have Alan as long as he will play Jack Reacher. No end in sight for that. Hopefully that’s for a very, very, very long time.” Alan Ritchson has likewise indicated he’s on board for the foreseeable future, and with Season 4 almost here the series seems well placed for a long run.
The show adapts Lee Child’s Jack Reacher novels, choosing a new book each season and, despite some changes, remaining largely faithful. November 2025 saw the publication of Child’s 30th Jack Reacher adventure, and even after adapting six books for live action there are still 24 left untouched, so the Prime Video series is unlikely to be forced into original stories out of necessity.
That abundance is also the series’ odd problem.
