New York Times readers saved their favorite destinations from this year’s 52 Places to Go list, with tens of thousands taking part and the paper publishing the top 10 reader picks. The ranked list includes, from 10 to 1: Saba, noted for volcanic terrain and new hotels tied to local sustainability efforts; Vietnam, where tourism infrastructure investments and expanded visa exemptions were highlighted; Messinia, Greece, known for tavernas and the Ionian’s clear waters; Okinawa, with white-sand beaches and the forthcoming reopening of reconstructed Shuri Castle structures; the Traena Islands, a remote Norwegian archipelago hosting climbers and festivalgoers; Nagasaki, with enhanced transit and longstanding rice shops and confectioneries; Iceland, whose far-western fjords and peninsulas will host a total solar eclipse in August amid electronic music and glacial scenery; the Seychelles, marking 50 years of independence with new beachside accommodations and cruise offerings; Costa Rica’s Osa Peninsula, made more accessible by new direct flights and known for its biodiversity and native sloths; and the Canadian Rockies by Train, where a limited-time route between Banff and Jasper offers scenic travel from a quiet train car.

The roundup followed the list’s publication last week.
