Rebecca Ferguson’s Doctor Sleep Climbs Global VOD Charts Despite U.S. Absence
According to Collider, Rebecca Ferguson’s 2019 Stephen King sequel Doctor Sleep is charting in VOD top 10 lists across several countries, including Mauritania and Brazil, even though the film is not currently streaming anywhere in America.
Ferguson co-stars with Ewan McGregor in the Mike Flanagan–directed follow-up to The Shining, playing cult leader Rose the Hat as a grown-up Dan Torrance protects a young girl. The film earned a Certified Fresh 78% on Rotten Tomatoes and an 89% audience score on Popcornmeter, but it grossed roughly $72 million worldwide against a $45 million budget; the original 1980 The Shining grossed $50 million on a $19 million budget and later became a cult classic. Flanagan’s other recent Stephen King adaptation, The Life of Chuck, found a second life on streaming and is now available on Hulu.
Ferguson’s upcoming projects include the AI-driven sci-fi Mercy with Chris Pratt on January 23, a return as Juliette Nichols in Silo season 3 (the series has been renewed for season 4), The Immortal Man on Netflix on March 20, and Dune: Part Three on December 18; Doctor Sleep can also be found on VOD platforms such as Prime Video in America.
