Resident Evil Requiem amiibo is tempting me despite not owning a Switch 2
I game on a budget and live largely in a digital-only world: an Xbox Series S I bought on sale for $200 in 2023, a monitor wired to a PC tower I don’t own, and shelves of action figures—Johnny Silverhand, Sheva, two Zelda amiibos—while no disk drive is in sight.
That setup was enough until the February 2026 Nintendo Direct revealed a new line of amiibos that made me rethink what I collect. Looking at the near-featureless Leon Kennedy amiibo from Resident Evil Requiem felt oddly reassuring—amiibos are affordable in a way a full-size statue isn’t, especially next to the official Resi 9 statues priced at $300 / £299 on JustGeek.
I don’t own a Switch 2 and barely use the Switch 1 I bought for $150, yet I find myself wanting those painted figures the way I once wanted boxed CD-ROMs and displayable proof that I play video games. Digital-only gaming has clear perks: Steam discounts of roughly $10 / £10, no boxes to store or scratch, and a leaner approach to spending.
