Robert De Niro's 2013 film The Family resurfaces on Tubi chart
Movieweb reports that Robert De Niro's 2013 action comedy The Family has resurfaced on Tubi's free streaming chart more than a decade after its theatrical release.
Directed by Luc Besson and starring De Niro alongside Michelle Pfeiffer and Tommy Lee Jones, the film follows a Mafia informant and his family relocated to a French town under witness protection whose old habits draw vengeful mobsters. The movie grossed just over $78 million against a $35 million budget but suffered poor reviews—Rotten Tomatoes scored it 28% and the audience Popcornmeter stands at 41%. Critics cited "corny gags" and "advanced tonal disorder;" one review said 'The only people who like this movie are dumb Americans with their penchant for senseless violence,' and Charlotte O'Sullivan of the London Evening Standard wrote that 'De Niro is happy to cannibalise his glorious past, but for those of us who love him, it's like sucking on old bones.'
Despite critical negativity, The Family is free to stream on Tubi and has attracted viewers on the platform. Release details listed include a September 13, 2013 release date, a 111-minute runtime, and writing credits for Luc Besson, Michael Caleo and Tonino Benacquista.
