Robert De Niro's Ronin Is Now Free to Stream on Tubi — Movieweb

One of Robert De Niro's best action thrillers (that isn't Heat) is now streaming for free on Tubi. Ronin sits fifth on the platform's weekly chart, giving the 1998 crime film renewed visibility nearly three decades after its release. Directed by John Frankenheimer and co-written by David Mamet and J.D.

Zeik, the film follows Sam, a former intelligence officer recruited for a mysterious heist by Deirdre (Natascha McElhone). The international team includes Vincent (Jean Reno), Gregor (Stellan Skarsgård) and others, and as the operation gets underway several members prove untrustworthy.

Despite its starry cast — which also features Sean Bean, Jonathan Pryce and Michael Lonsdale — Ronin underperformed at the box office, grossing $70 million against an estimated $55 million budget. By common Hollywood math the movie failed to turn a profit. Critical response was modest, with a 69% critics score on Rotten Tomatoes and an 80% user rating from more than 100,000 votes.
