On Jan. 29, 2026, Roblox announced an update to its Heads marketplace policy that will convert all Classic Heads — static, single-expression avatar heads — into animated Dynamic Heads, a process the company expects to complete in February 2026, the company said. Roblox described the change as part of building “a platform where every user can express themselves authentically,” and said new Head submissions must include a caged model for accessory layering, defined eye and mouth regions that respond to blink and mouth open/close animations, and the ability to make a minimum of 17 specific facial expressions.

The policy also sets firm deadlines: any Heads not in compliance by March 3 will be removed from the marketplace, and heads still noncompliant by June 15 will be removed from user inventories. Roblox said it will attempt a “best effort” to update remaining Heads while respecting artistic intent and that creators will have the opportunity to reject Roblox’s changes.

Creators and longtime players pushed back, saying converting hundreds of Classic Heads will be time-consuming. “I don't even know how the format for updating the faces is going to be,” one creator shared on X. “I'm honestly super worried…,” another wrote, adding they’d made more than 200 faces and didn’t know what to expect.

The wider playerbase erupted on social channels, with many mourning the loss of static 2D faces and speculating other legacy avatar features could follow.
