ROG Xbox Ally X price jumps nearly $200 in Japan — Kotaku

The ROG Xbox Ally X is one of the premier PC gaming handhelds on the market. Despite some half-baked UI tweaks and finnicky Windows holdovers, it’s an excellent way to play PC games on the go for existing Xbox and Game Pass users. At launch last fall its $1,000 price tag was a drawback, and in Japan that tag has climbed further.

Asus raised the ROG Xbox Ally X price in Japan from 139,800 yen tax included to 169,800 yen tax included — a 30,000 yen increase, roughly $200. Microsoft’s Japan listing has not changed its price, but its Ally X page redirects users to Asus’s site showing the higher figure.

The base ROG Xbox Ally price remains 89,800 yen, about $585. One clear difference is memory: the regular Ally has 16GB of LPDDR5-6400, while the Ally X uses 24GB of LPDDR5X-8000, and rising RAM costs amid an ongoing shortage make the Ally X more exposed to pricing volatility.
