Goal reported Roma sporting director Ricky Massara said the club's pursuit of Joshua Zirkzee has been complicated by Manchester United's dismissal of Ruben Amorim.

Massara told Sky Sports in Italy that "He is a Manchester United centre-forward liked by many clubs, not just us," and conceded that "the situation is different after this change of management, there are no contacts in progress, but I wouldn't focus on individual names." Roma had identified the 24-year-old as their primary winter target, viewing him as a solution to their goalscoring issues given his Serie A record with Bologna, and United reportedly value him at approximately £30 million.

Amorim's departure has left Darren Fletcher as interim boss and United's hierarchy are reportedly wary of weakening a squad they consider too "thin" by allowing senior players to leave. Massara's comment that there are "no contacts in progress" suggests the trail for Zirkzee has gone cold for now, though he could still get chances under the new regime or see interest re-emerge late in the window.
