According to Goal, Ruben Amorim's time as Manchester United coach was defined as much by his dramatic, often confrontational press conferences as by the team's poor results, from his November 2024 unveiling to his sacking the morning after a 1-1 draw with Leeds United. Amorim burst onto the Old Trafford stage declaring, "As a coach you have to choose one way or another, I choose always 100 percent our way," and later warned, "The storm will come." His comments included: "I am not naïve.

We are the worst team maybe in the history of Manchester United," after a home defeat that followed an incident in which he smashed a television in the dressing room. He also made headlines for personnel barbs: after dropping Marcus Rashford he said, "I will put (Jorge) Vital on [rather] than a player that doesn't give the maximum every day," and following the Europa League final offered to leave without compensation, saying, "I am always open, if the board and fans feel I am not the right guy, I will go in the next day without any conversation about compensation." His comments about Alejandro Garnacho prompted a furious response from the player's family and the player himself.

Amorim suggested his squad had given up after the Grimsby Cup defeat—"the team and the players spoke really loud today"—and in his final press conference attacked the club hierarchy, saying he had agreed to be the manager not just a head coach and claiming he only had 18 months left at the club.
