Four years after its Netflix release in July 2022, The Gray Man remains known for Ryan Gosling's turn as Sierra Six, an elite black ops officer who obtains a hard drive containing proof of corruption from a CIA officer.

The film enjoyed a strong streaming debut, landing at #1 on Netflix's Top 10 English Movies charts and remaining there for six weeks. It holds a 90% audience score but a 46% critics' score on Rotten Tomatoes, and a sequel and a spin-off were announced in 2022; updates have been scarce since.

In 2023 the Russo Brothers said they were "hard at work" on the script, and Netflix film chief Scott Stuber later called the sequel "that's a maybe." The directors now say there isn't "any momentum news right now" for the follow-up, though there are people "still thinking about it."

The Russo Brothers are currently focused on Avengers: Doomsday, set for December 2026, and Avengers: Secret Wars, scheduled for 2027. The Gray Man is available to stream on Netflix.
