Reddit user UniverseBear constructed a giant, illuminated middle finger to bid farewell to his server neighbours.

UniverseBear believes that "there's most likely a much more efficient way to do this". Andrea Shearon, who has dabbled with the game's electronics, expressed admiration after her own experiments, saying she had been distracted by a Guns 'n' Roses‑obsessed neighbour who would shoot her every time she went on the roof.

Given how neighbours typically behave in Rust — namely by trying to murder you and steal all your stuff — constructing a giant, flashing Finger of Sauron can seem almost polite. Commenters were largely approving: "Truly a thing of beauty," said FlashFlash100yd, while phish32786 added, "This is the level of petty I play for."

The game is also set to receive a naval update in 2026, delayed out of 2025, which will introduce ship construction, naval combat and piracy.
