Ryan Hurst cast as Kratos in Prime Video's God of War series
Polygon reports Prime Video confirmed Wednesday that Ryan Hurst will portray Kratos in its upcoming live-action adaptation of God of War, which already has a two-season order at the streaming service.
Hurst is best known for his roles in Sons of Anarchy and The Walking Dead, and he portrayed the Norse god Thor in 2022's God of War Ragnarök, a performance that earned him a BAFTA nomination, the outlet said. No other casting was announced, leaving the actors for Atreus, Mimir, Freya and others unknown. Actor Christopher Judge voiced Kratos in the 2018 PlayStation reboot, having taken over from Terrence "T.C." Carson.
Prime Video describes the series as closely following the Norse-era story of the last two games, centering on Kratos and his ten-year-old son Atreus as they honor the late Faye by attempting to spread her ashes from the highest peak of the nine realms and come into conflict with Norse gods. Ronald D. Moore serves as series showrunner, writer, and executive producer; Frederick E.O. Toye is reportedly directing the first two episodes. The series is produced by Sony Pictures Television and Amazon MGM Studios and is slated to arrive on Prime Video in 2027.
