Ryan Murphy’s ‘Love Story’ Premiere Embraced ’90s New York
On Tuesday night in Midtown Manhattan, crowds gathered at Carnegie Hall for the premiere of Ryan Murphy’s new television series about John F. Kennedy Jr. and Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy. Nytimes reports the FX show, "Love Story: John F. Kennedy Jr. & Carolyn Bessette," brings to life their 1990s New York romance and reckons with the intense tabloid and media coverage they endured.
Paul Anthony Kelly and Sarah Pidgeon play the couple, and the series chronicles their existence as a glamorous downtown pair—hanging out in a Tribeca loft, dining at the Odeon and Bubby’s, and arguing in a park. On the red carpet, Naomi Watts, who plays Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, said portraying that chapter of the former first lady’s life felt weighty, and the cast reflected on trying to embody members of the Kennedy family.
Before a small-theater screening, Mr. Murphy took the stage in a crimson red suit to thank his cast and crew, and the episode evokes 1990s Manhattan as a character, including Mr. Kennedy biking past the Twin Towers.
