Sam Carver returns to Chicago Fire for a brief visit; not rejoining Firehouse 51
Sam Carver (Jake Lockett) turned up in Chicago again in Season 14's "Frostbite Blue," but his visit was a short one — Lockett returned as a guest star and Carver is not coming back to Firehouse 51 full time. Paramedic In Charge Violet Mikami (Hanako Greensmith), usually composed, was visibly nervous when her former flame arrived, rekindling old emotions between the two.
The reunion unfolded amid tension at Firehouse 51 as other relationships have developed. Carver had left Chicago to start fresh in Denver after struggling with alcohol addiction and AA, departing just as Violet had come to terms with her feelings for him. He had promised colleagues he would return someday, and he kept that promise with this visit.
According to the episode, Carver came to Chicago to help expand Violet's paramedic training program for firefighters in Denver. He and Violet shared a warm embrace, while Lizzy Novak and Sal Vasquez noticed the tension — Carver later confronted Vasquez, warning him about Violet and asserting he wanted her to have the best.
Carver stayed only a few days to say his goodbyes. Violet told him, "I'm so glad to hear how well everything is going for you, Sam," and later, "I guess everything worked out for the best." Carver smiled but cried as he walked away, signaling a bittersweet farewell rather than a reunion.
