Nbc reports the teaser trailer for Chicago Fire's January 28 episode "Frostbite Blue" teases the return of former Firehouse 51 member Sam Carver (Jake Lockett) to the station.

The promo shows Carver arriving at Firehouse 51 and sharing a tight embrace with his former flame, paramedic in charge Violet Mikami (Hanako Greensmith), who tells him, "Oh my god, I'm glad you're here," and he replies, "Me too." The timing is complicated: Violet has developed a connection this season with Carver's replacement, Sal Vasquez (Brandon Larracuente), and the trailer captures moments of jealousy and tension, including Carver telling Vasquez, "Violet deserves the best," and Vasquez responding, "Sorry, do we have a problem?"

The teaser also follows Carver's established arc: he moved to Denver in Season 13's finale after struggles that included a drinking problem, AA work and time back in Texas, and the episode offers viewers an update on his sobriety and where his life stands. Season 14 of Chicago Fire airs Wednesdays at 9/8c and is available the next day on Peacock.
