Speaking recently with ScreenRant about his upcoming thriller Send Help, director Sam Raimi shut down the idea of Spider-Man 4, saying he had already "handed off the torch to someone else." Raimi clarified that his versions of Peter Parker (Tobey Maguire) and Mary Jane Watson (Kirsten Dunst) have "gone elsewhere," confirming their story continued off‑screen after Spider-Man 3.

That outcome was already suggested by 2021's Spider-Man: No Way Home, which brought Maguire back as a more mature version of the character and let him reference events that happened in the years since his trilogy ended. An exchange in No Way Home implies Peter and MJ came to some form of agreement about their lives moving forward.

Because No Way Home effectively addresses what happened to Raimi's characters, a direct Spider-Man 4 would either have to undo that or accept that the characters' post‑Spider-Man 3 lives are already known. The report also notes Raimi would have no input into any potential follow‑ups to other Spider-Man franchises, and suggests Andrew Garfield’s character might make more sense for a new standalone sequel.

Maguire has not been announced for another Spider-Man return, though the piece says two upcoming MCU projects — 2026's Avengers: Doomsday and 2027's Avengers: Secret Wars — have been floated as possible places he could reappear.
