Reporting by Theguardian describes how Santi Cazorla returned to Real Oviedo as a focal point for supporters, signing autographs and greeting fans after the club’s 1-0 victory over Girona.

The club has endured managerial turnover, a long winless run and open protests from supporters, leaving Oviedo bottom of the table and under intense pressure.

Cazorla, 41, was introduced for 26 minutes, completed seven passes from 11 touches and played a part in the move that led to Ilyas Chaira’s goal; his presence was credited with bringing calm and fluidity.

The win, Oviedo’s first since September, provided a brief reprieve and a boost of belief, but the team remain six points adrift and relegation remains a real possibility.
