Sarah Michelle Gellar says Robin Williams' death led her to pause acting
According to People, Sarah Michelle Gellar said on the Jan. 7 episode of the Shut Up Evan podcast that she took a brief break from acting after the death of her friend and former co-star Robin Williams. Gellar spoke about playing Williams' on-screen daughter in the CBS sitcom The Crazy Ones, which aired from 2013 to 2014 and was Williams' final television role before he died by suicide at age 63 on Aug.
11, 2014; it was later discovered he had Lewy body dementia. "I had children back to back. I started The Crazy Ones when my son was 3 months old," she said. "I was breastfeeding the entire time. And then, Robin passed away, and everything just sort of hit me." Gellar said the loss and postpartum left her feeling directionless and prompted her to step away so she could be with her children.
"I'll never get that time back with my kids. I didn't miss a show, a performance, a first step, a lost tooth," she said, and added that she now picks projects differently: "work defined how I thought of myself. Now, work is just a part of how I think of myself." She was also announced as a judge on Netflix's upcoming live revival of Star Search, a panel revealed on Jan.
