Savannah Guthrie has not appeared on the Today show since Feb. 1, when her mother Nancy was reported missing, and multiple veteran TV executives say it is doubtful she will return. "There’s no way Savannah’s coming back," one source said. "I can’t imagine she would even want to." Others stressed Guthrie’s importance to the morning program.

"If you could pick one person across the span of morning TV that a show would not want to lose, it would be Savannah," a TV executive said. "Savannah was always the glue on that show, and without that, this whole paradigm of our morning anchor team as a family, that connective tissue has just been ripped out." Hoda Kotb returned to fill in during the Guthrie family tragedy; Kotb exited NBC in January 2025 after 26 years with the network and is expected to be back again next week.

Executives say they are handling the situation week by week and have no plan to keep her for the foreseeable future. There has still been no suspect in Nancy’s suspected kidnapping.
