School Spirits Season 3 lets Janet cross over — reviewer says it wastes her arc
In a Collider review published Feb. 1, 2026, Jasneet Singh argues that the Season 3 premiere of School Spirits has Janet (Jess Gabor) decide to cross over while fellow spirit Wally (Milo Manheim) closes the door on his chance to do so. Singh outlines how much of Janet’s presence has been defined by absence: the show introduced crossing over in season one, cast Dawn (RaeAnna Boon) as the first to cross, and spent Season 2 revealing Janet as a body‑snatcher wrestling with guilt, grief and redemption.
At the start of Season 3 she steps into a leadership role, attempting to help Simon (Kristian) return to the living, and Singh praises Gabor’s vulnerable, poignant monologue as evidence Janet was finally finding her footing. The review contends the decision to let Janet go is problematic on character grounds.
Singh says Janet is written as a scientist who would normally account for variables and caution against irreversible acts — she previously dissuaded Mr. Martin (Josh Zuckerman) from acting prematurely — yet her choice to cross over felt rushed and driven by a tenuous assumption, leaving the show’s teenagers without leadership.
Singh also criticizes the context of Janet’s exit: Wally voluntarily walked away from crossing over at the start of the premiere, confiding in no one and undercutting the Season 2 cliffhanger.
