Science Saru’s Ghost in the Shell anime gets first trailer and July 2026 premiere
Science Saru’s new adaptation of Ghost in the Shell received its first official trailer, and the studio confirmed the anime will premiere in July 2026, Polygon reported.
The 35‑second teaser shows a blue‑haired Motoko Kusanagi, red Tachikomas and the vast, cynical industrial metropolis where Public Security Section 9 operates. It also briefly depicts a tank‑hybrid Tachikoma cruising the city by cable and switching off its camouflage.
The project is directed by Toma Kimura (Devilman: Crybaby, Dan Da Dan), with Shuuhei Handa serving as chief animation director and character designer; Handa has worked on Kill la Kill, Darling in the FranXX and SSSS.Gridman. Science Saru’s recent credits include Scott Pilgrim Takes Off and Dan Da Dan.
Polygon says the Science Saru adaptation “appears to be the most faithful one,” bringing elements from Masamune Shirow’s 1989 manga using original designs. The outlet noted previous Ghost in the Shell anime and films often used Shirow’s concepts to tell new stories, with the 1995 film being the closest adaptation until now.
The anime was announced in early 2025, and while the trailer confirms a July 2026 premiere, the teaser did not provide a specific release date or full distribution details.
