Scott Shearer reunited with sister after learning family secret

According to People, Scott Shearer, an English man, was reunited with his estranged sister Tina on the U.K. television show Long Lost Family after being separated when he was 12 and 60 years apart.

Shearer has said that as a child he discovered the people he believed were his parents were actually his grandparents and that another sister was his birth mother. Speaking on the U.K. show This Morning on Jan. 20, he recalled confronting family after an argument and being told, "He's not your dad," a revelation he described as "still a shock" and "life-changing."

Shearer told Long Lost Family's researchers he had been searching for Tina for years and was "at the end of my tether," preparing himself for the possibility she might not be alive; a clip showed him breaking down in tears when told she had been found. The Long Lost Family episode was set to air Thursday, Jan. 22, and Tina called the reunion "a big surprise," saying she had "grown up feeling loved" and that her adoptive father was "amazing."
