Movieweb reports that Sebastian Stan, who is said to be circling a key role in next year's sequel to The Batman, has revealed he almost played the Green Lantern in the 2011 film Green Lantern.

Stan recounted on the Happy Sad Confused podcast that he walked into the audition room alongside “me, Justin Timberlake, Jared Leto, Ryan Reynolds, and maybe one other person,” and remembered thinking, “I'm f*****. There's no way this is happening for me.” He added that, looking back, he was “almost glad it didn't” happen because he did not know if he could have handled that level of attention.

Reynolds ultimately secured the role of Hal Jordan, with Blake Lively as Carol Ferris and cast members including Mark Strong, Peter Sarsgaard, Angela Bassett, Tim Robbins, Geoffrey Rush, Taika Waititi, Michael Clarke Duncan and Clancy Brown. The film holds a 25% rating on Rotten Tomatoes and is widely regarded as a major flop; Stan's account sits alongside reflections from director Martin Campbell, who told Variety he had “never done one before” and felt unmoored from the superhero world, and Reynolds, who has said he was in a position early in his career where he could not speak up about creative decisions.

Whether Stan will join The Batman: Part II in a role such as Harvey 'Two-Face' Dent remains unconfirmed by the reporting.
