Senators Meet Zelensky With Hopeful Message on Sanctions

Senators Richard Blumenthal and Sheldon Whitehouse traveled to Kyiv to meet President Volodymyr Zelensky and press for a long-stalled sanctions bill aimed at crippling Russia’s energy-driven economy as the war enters a fifth year. Both senators expressed new confidence that the legislation could move forward, though it remained unclear whether President Trump would embrace it and allow it to advance in Congress.

During visits to Ohmatdyt Children’s Hospital and the damaged Darnytsia power plant, the senators said the scenes brought home the urgency of harsher penalties.
