Seth Rogen Calls Catherine O'Hara 'An Utter Genius' in Awards Tribute
Seth Rogen gave an emotional tribute to Catherine O'Hara while accepting the Directors Guild Award for Best Comedy Series in Beverly Hills alongside Evan Goldberg, for an episode titled "The Oner." He described O'Hara as "our idol since we were children" and noted she died aged 71 last month.
Rogen spoke about the impact of Home Alone, saying, "Home Alone, honestly, is like the movie that made me wanna make movies in a lot of ways. In that movie, she's always yelling 'Kevin, Kevin!' and on set she would always be yelling, 'Evan, Evan!' and every time she did it we were like, 'It's like Home Alone.'" He added that O'Hara "showed that you can be an utter genius and also the nicest person in the entire world." O'Hara was cast as Kevin McCallister's mother, Kate, in Home Alone and returned for the 1992 sequel, bringing warmth and underplayed mania to each scene.
Rogen later worked with her on Apple TV+'s The Studio, where she portrayed Patty Leigh, a mentor to his character Matt Remick.
